Gin has never been hotter so we have teamed up with Masons to produce a special, limited edition gin! Making its way to the top of the trendiest drinks list, gin events in Yorkshire are becoming increasingly popular. Here are some of the top pick gin events in Yorkshire.
Despite it’s recent popularity gin is far from a ‘new drink’. In fact, British gin consumption can be traced back to the 17th century. Soldiers fighting alongside the Dutch would have taken a swig before going into battle. It is believed that this is where the phrase ‘’Dutch courage’’ originally came from.
Masons Gin based in Bedale, are Yorkshire’s first distillery creating amazing artisan spirits. Their award winning gins are still distilled in their 300 litre copper pot named Steve! To mark the Great Yorkshire Show’s 160th anniversary we have worked with Masons to create a truly Yorkshire gin with a real in season twist. Apple blossom collected from trees behind the Yorkshire Event Centre will give the gin it’s unique flavour. The orchard was planted by the Northern Fruit Group in 2001. It features 15 Yorkshire heritage varieties dating back to the 1800s.

Cathy Mason, who set up Masons Gin with husband Karl, said: “We wanted to do something to mark this big anniversary and to tie our special distillation in with the show.”
Great Yorkshire Show Director Charles Mills said: “This year is a big celebration for the show and we are delighted that Masons are helping us to toast our 160th anniversary in true Yorkshire fashion and in a way that incorporates a real link to the showground and its beautiful landscape.”
Masons is known for its dry Yorkshire gin and has developed a range of flavours since it was established five years ago. Their gins have won a host of awards, with the latest being the UK’s Best Contemporary Gin for the Lavender. The distillery is no stranger to producing more uncommon flavours, with Distilled Sloe, Steve’s Apple and Peppered Pear among previous special editions. Keep your eyes peeled for them at gin events in Yorkshire. The special edition GYS Apple Blossom gin will be available to buy from the Masons stand in the Food Hall at the Great Yorkshire Show (Tuesday 10 – Thursday 12 July 2018). If you are lucky enough to pick up one the 100 bottles being produced we recommend you enjoy it served chilled, in a balloon copa glass over plenty of ice.
